How Water’s Edge came to life

Water’s Edge is a family-run Cotswold wedding venue created by us, Steve and Emma Hewer, and brought to life with our sons, Alex and Will. Our story started in 2011, hosting marquee weddings beside the water on our private family estate, and has grown beautifully over time into the romantic waterside venue we’re so proud to share with you today.

At Water’s Edge, we care deeply about the couples who choose us, the celebrations we help create, and the beautiful setting we’re lucky enough to call home.

When you’re planning the biggest day of your life, you should feel listened to and genuinely looked after. From your first enquiry to the moment you walk down the aisle, our team takes the time to understand what matters most to you and help you create a celebration that feels completely your own.

Water’s Edge is a family-run wedding venue, and that shapes the way we do things here. We take real pride in our venue, our grounds, our food, and the experience we create for every couple and guest. By only welcoming a select number of weddings each year, we can give each celebration the time, space, and care it deserves.

Our 25 acres of private parkland, woodland, and spring-fed lakes are part of what makes Water’s Edge so special. Tucked away in a hidden corner of the Cotswolds, we offer a fairytale setting to exchange your vows, celebrate with your loved ones, capture beautiful wedding photos, and take in the picturesque scenery across two nights.

Your wedding should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Our experienced wedding coordinators will be on hand to guide you through every detail, from ceremony timings and supplier recommendations to those all-important finishing touches. We’ll make sure every detail is just as it should be, so you can relax and enjoy every moment.

A setting with a story

Tucked away in the secluded Cotswold village of Ewen, near Cirencester, Water’s Edge is surrounded by acres upon acres of spring-fed lakes, private parkland, expansive woodland, and rolling countryside. It’s a setting that feels a world away from everyday life, full of hidden magic that’s just waiting to be uncovered.

The water here has a story of its own. Rising through ancient limestone, the spring has flowed for centuries, helping to feed the infant River Thames as it begins its journey through the meadows. Its history runs ever deeper too: Roman coins, brooches, and other offerings have all been uncovered near the spring, suggesting people were drawn to this place long before it become a wedding venue.

There’s something about the water here: timeless, tranquil, and magical. We look forward to sharing our little slice of paradise with you.

    How it all started

15 years ago, we began hosting marquee weddings beside the water on our private family estate. What started as a handful of summer celebrations soon grew through word of mouth, as more couples fell in love with our picturesque lakeside setting and relaxed atmosphere.

    Creating Water’s Edge

As demand grew, we decided it was time to bring year-round weddings to our magical waterside location, reimagining the estate’s old stables and barn into something new. Steve and Emma’s son, Edward, led the build, while Emma and Alex shaped the design, interiors, and guest experience.

Water’s Edge officially opened in November 2022 with an exclusive celebration for our friends, neighbours, and some special industry guests. It was a proud moment for our family, as we finally opened the doors to the venue we had spent years imagining, planning, and bringing to life.
